Dance is an amazing art type. It relaxes, engages and benefits you. This art is given importance by celebrating it on 29th April every year, which is the birth anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet.  The day aims to encourage and motivate children to participate and get education in dance through festivals and events held on the date all over the world. Everyone celebrates this day enthusiastically spreading the awareness of dance. 


There are are multiple forms of dance. Some of them are: 

Ballet: It is said to be the most difficult type of dance to master, ballet is a rigorous style of dance that is the foundation of most forms of dance training.


 

Jazz: Jazz is the most popular style of dance among dancers. it combines all dance styles in a high energetic dance that is without conventional boundaries.

 


Hip hop: Hip hop known as street dance is mostly danced on rap, urban and not surprisingly, hip-hop music. 



Contemporary: This style of dance incorporates ballet, modern, jazz and lyrical. It uses a technique such as ballet as its fundamentals and creates many more movements that do not take up with the strict rules of ballet and modern.

Classical dance: Classical dance of India has developed a type of dance-drama that is a form of a total theater. The dancer acts out a story almost particularly through gestures. Some examples are: Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Mohiniyattam, Sattriya, Manipuri etc. 


Folk and tribal dance forms: 

-Folk dances and plays in India have significance in rural areas as the expression of the daily work and rituals of village communities. India has numerous folk dances. Every state has its own folk dance such as: 

  • Bihu and Bagurumba in Assam. 
  • Nati in Himachal Pradesh. 
  • Garba, Gagari, Godhakund and Dandiya in Gujarat. 
  • Bhangra and Giddha in Punjab. 
  • Lavani, Lezim and Koli dance are the most popular dances in Maharashtra. 
There are several more folk dances too. 

-Tribal dances in India are inspired by the tribal folklore. Each ethnic group has its own distinct combination of myths, legends, tales, proverbs, riddles, ballads, folk songs, folk dance, and folk music. Some of them are: 

  • Punjab- Bhangra, Gidha, Kikli, Sammi, Karthi. 
  • Rajasthan- Banjaara, Ghoomar, Fire dance, Tera tali. 
  • West Bengal- Santali dance, Jatra, Gazan. 
  • Maharashtra- Lavani, Koli, Tamasha.
There are various more tribal dances too.
